Welcome HOME: A Milestone Worth Celebrating
June 12th, 2026
Homewood, AL — This month marks a milestone that ourHOME has been working toward for years: the first residents have officially moved into ourHOME.
What began as a vision shared by families, supporters, volunteers, and community partners has now become a reality. After years of planning, fundraising, construction, and preparation, ourHOME is no longer just a dream for the future—it is a place where people are living, growing, and building community today.
“What began as a dream is now a reality.”
Already, we are witnessing the moments that make this work so meaningful. Residents are settling into their new home, cooking meals, doing laundry, caring for their living spaces, and learning the rhythms of independent living. Just as importantly, they are building friendships, gaining confidence, and discovering new levels of independence.
For families and caregivers, it has been exciting—and often emotional—to watch new possibilities unfold.
One of the tools helping make this transition successful is the innovative technology provided through SimplyHome. These adaptive systems help create a balance between independence and peace of mind, allowing residents to build confidence in their daily routines while giving families reassurance and support.
We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks about how this technology is helping residents thrive.
“Residents are building friendships, gaining confidence, and discovering new levels of independence.”
While we celebrate this exciting achievement, we are also looking ahead.
We know that many families continue to search for housing options that balance independence, support, and community. As ourHOME grows, we remain committed to expanding opportunities for adults with developmental differences to live meaningful, connected, and self-directed lives.
Yet housing has never been the whole story.
From the beginning, ourHOME has been about creating opportunities for BELONGING. Through our weekly Social gatherings and educational programs, members are building friendships, developing new skills, and discovering greater confidence through meaningful community experiences.
“Housing is only one part of the ourHOME mission.”
Every week, we see the power of connection at work. Relationships are formed, independence is strengthened, and community becomes more than an idea—it becomes a lived experience.
Creating something new requires vision, partnership, and investment. Our goal is to provide quality housing that remains affordable for members and families while continuing to offer the supports, technology, educational opportunities, and social programming that help individuals thrive.
If you would like to see the home for yourself, we would love to welcome you for a tour. To learn more, email info@ourhomealabama.org.
As we celebrate this milestone, we are reminded that ourHOME has never been just about a building.
“A house is a structure. A HOME is where you belong.”
ourHOME doesn’t belong only to the people who live there. It belongs to everyone who has invested in it, supported it, volunteered, donated, encouraged, and believed in the vision from the very beginning.
Because of you, more adults with developmental differences have the opportunity to experience BELONGING, DIGNITY, and INDEPENDENCE.
Thank you for helping build that future.
With gratitude,
The ourHOME Team
