ourHOME CELEBRATES GROUNDBREAKING OF FIRST INCLUSIVE HOUSING COMMUNITY IN HOMEWOOD

December 18th, 2025

Homewood, AL — ourHOME has officially broken ground on its first inclusive housing community in Homewood, marking a major milestone in the organization’s mission to build interdependent communities for adults with developmental differences.

The groundbreaking ceremony brought together community leaders, partners, families, board members, and supporters to celebrate the start of construction on the ourHOME duplex—an intentionally designed residential space rooted in independence, dignity, and belonging.

The event was made possible through the collaboration and support of an extraordinary group of partners, including Twin Construction, River Bank and Trust, Sally May Interiors, Brandino Brass, the City of Homewood, the Homewood Chamber of Commerce, Live Oak Engineering, ourHOME members and families, board leadership, and additional community champions.

Local media outlets WBRC FOX6 News and CBS 42 attended the event to help share the significance of this milestone with the broader Birmingham community.

“This groundbreaking represents more than the beginning of construction—it represents years of dreaming, partnership, and belief in a future where everyone has a place to belong,” said Amanda Owens, Founder and Executive Director of ourHOME. “We are deeply grateful to the partners, donors, and families who made this day possible.”

The project was made possible through generous support from individual donors, community foundations, and mission-aligned partners who share ourHOME’s commitment to creating inclusive housing opportunities and fostering meaningful community connections.

As construction moves forward, ourHOME continues to invite the community to be part of this journey.
